PRESTONSBURG, Ky. (WYMT) – Bright Beginnings Child Care Center held its second annual Thanksgiving dinner for free on Sunday.
Owners of the center said last year ended up being so successful they knew they had to do it again.
“Last year we actually served over 250 dinners,” said owner Kimberly Bowling. “This year it’s not even started and we’ve probably (served) 100 or more and it hasn’t even begun yet.”
Those who attended the dinner said it’s a great way to give to those who need it.
“I think more people ‘ought to do that,” started Timothy Cornette. “Because there’s a lot of people who have a hard time and they need help. I guess they’re just embarrassed to ask for help.”
Timothy said this is the first year he has attended the dinner.
He said he lives alone and said he almost never cooks for himself.
“One year for Thanksgiving I actually ate ham and cheese,” Cornette said laughing.
Organizers at the center said they are not only providing the free meals, they’re delivering them too.
There’s so many who may not have a way out and so we are doing deliveries. We said within a 10-mile radius but we’re not going to turn anybody down,” said Bowling.
